Topic: The Tabernacle of God 392

Scripture: But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this building. (Heb 9:11)

Note: Matt 16:18, “And I say also to you, You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Peter translated from the Greek Petros means a small stone, which is only a piece of a rock, which Rock is Jesus. As an Apostle, Peter and the other Apostles were in the forefront of the inauguration of the Church on the day of Pentecost.

After being endued with the Spirit power on the day of Pentecost, getting baptised with fire as evidenced with cloven tongues as of fire, they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Peter showed leadership on this day when he stood up together with the other Apostles to deliver the word of God, resulting in three thousand souls getting won for the Lord.

Peter was similarly in the forefront, together with his colleague, John, in the miracle of the impotent man at the Beautiful Gate. This spectacular miracle led to an uneasy disaffection within the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem. They had felt threatened that the Church, which was considered a sectarian group preaching about Jesus and the resurrection, could deal a deadly blow to Judaism that seemed obviously powerless when it came to miracles, compared to the followers of Jesus.

Five thousand men were converted, making life decision for Jesus. These phenomenal victories may have contributed to conclusion by some people that Peter was then the rock being referred to by Jesus as the one upon whom the Church shall be built on. However, Peter’s unstable nature was again to betray him on the issue of the Gentle believers in relation to the circumcision, an issue that caused Paul to confront Peter and rebuke him for playing a double standard game.

Food for thought: Jesus Christ is undoubtedly the Chief corner stone, the Rock upon which the Church was built.

Declaration: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief corner stone. Ephesians 2:20
