Scripture: But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this building. (Heb 9:11)
Note: 2Cor 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” It’s an established truth scripturally that man is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a body. This truth emphasizes the fact that at the centre of our being is our spirit, surrounded by the soul, dwelling in this earthly tabernacle of clay.
The invisible part of man, which comprises the soul and the spirit, do not die at death. On the dissolution of this earthly house of tabernacle that’s termed as the death of man, the Bible is very clear on what happens to the body, soul and spirit. Ecclesiastics 12:7, “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” So the body of man which we grieve and weep over for days, ends its mission on earth, in the grave. The real man as known to others is not the corrupted body that has fallen victim to diseases and eventually to the power of death and decomposition.
On dissolution of the body, the spirit of man returns to God who gave it. It’s the spirit that has the ability to communicate with God. When man sinned through Adam, it led to separation between God and man. This separation or disconnect from God is termed death, since God is the source of all life. This spirit man is only able to come back to life again through regeneration in Christ Jesus. Anyone that refuses to accept the provision of God through His Son, Jesus Christ, will continue to live in perpetual darkness, eternally, separated from the life that’s in God.
Genesis 2:7, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living soul.” The soul is that invisible part of man that breathes. When it ceases breathing, death occurs. It’s that part of man that is responsible for decisions and choices that are made, hence it’s responsible for sins committed. It’s the entity that’s responsible for accepting or rejecting Jesus Christ as saviour and Lord. Ezekiel 18:4, “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”
Food for thought: Rejecting God’s offer of redemption and justification for our righteousness is the greatest sin against ourselves.
Declaration: The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The sin shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. Ezekiel 18:20
