Topic: The empty tomb 74
Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15
Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)
Note: The schoolmaster as espoused by Paul in Galatians in his use of imagery of the law in relation to the coming of Christ, was basically a protective escort, whose main preoccupation was the physical safety of the child within his paid custody. He led the child to school to be taught by professional teachers because he personally wasn’t equipped with the required skills, capabilities and capacity to function in the role of a tutor.
The only professional teacher equipped with the required skills, capabilities and capacity to teach a living, saving knowledge is Jesus Christ. The law only taught us the inherent safety and benefits of good morals, rites, ceremonies, sacrifices and dietary regulations, at best pointing us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
The law was just a servant, a prototype of the expected teacher to come, serving as a foreshadow of the real substance to be expected from the teacher, the Messiah, who will be the fulfilment of the law. He will fully teach us the true way of justification and salvation, which is only by faith in Christ.
Under the Messiah, we are justified before God through his substitutionary death on the cross for us and the shedding of his blood as a one time sacrifice forever, that was acceptable to God. We now enjoy a clearer discovery of divine grace, truth, mercy, faith and love compared with the limitations of the law that failed to reveal the true nature of God’s love.
Food for thought: Grace is the fullness of God manifested through His love.
Declaration: For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:17)
