Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we come to the full knowledge of the truth that God’s Spirit dwells in us.
Note: Isaiah 62:1 For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. 62:3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.
At the time that Isaiah prophesied on the city of Jerusalem, it was a fully inhabited city still functioning, but in moral depravity. Corruption had engulfed the city and there was restlessness and lack of peace. Jerusalem is a city chosen by God to be the focal point for teaching the rest of the world about peace that can only come from God. When things are going favourably for any nation, albeit indulging in corruption and injustice, the usual tendency of people is to turn deaf ears to warning signs of approaching destruction.
The inhabitants were at ease in Zion. Yet the warning from Isaiah pointed to approaching destruction. Jerusalem was soon about to be turned into a desolate place because it was going to fall into the hands of the Babylonians who shall turn the thriving city into a place of desolation. The meaning of desolation is a place uninhabited and giving an impression of bleak emptiness. That was exactly what was going to happen to her. The LORD was prophetically assuring the city that He would not rest until Jerusalem was restored by a shining righteousness.
Although Jerusalem was then a material city that stood for the rest of Israel, it also stands as representation of all believers. It’s refreshing to note that the righteousness of believers shall shine forth as brightness. Believers shall shine, reflecting the light of God in a dark world. It means that they shall stand out clearly, demonstrating the brilliance of God’s glory. This shall only be possible because God shall lift up believers with His power, just as He raised Christ from the dead in power and in glory.
Food for thought: God’s Spirit dwells in every believer. This makes possibilities for believers endless.
Declaration: But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:11
