Daily Manna – Perseverance 308

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we be faithful in what we’re doing, trusting You to come through for us.

Note: Matthew 9:20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: 9:21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. 9:22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

The best fortification a nation could possibly have isn’t much about the height and thickness of the physical concrete walls, going along with solid, impenetrable gates. The best defence in a nation is the type of human resources available to manage the security of the nation, as well as the protective systems put in place, having regard for trusted folks with the oversight of never betraying the trust reposed in them (Proverbs 25:28). Nehemiah vividly demonstrated this fact after he had completed rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 7:1-3).

Shiphrah and Puah were ordinary midwives who didn’t have the noble task of being administrators over the central civil governing regime in Goshen. Neither did they possess the enviable military acumen of fighting soldiers whose efforts usually went with high sounding praises from the masses, especially the women folk, who are unable to hide their true feelings of appreciation for men who dared to put the safety of their own lives on the line. Shiphrah and Puah operated quietly in their small corner until the king of Egypt couldn’t refuse to take note of their importance.

Unfortunately, many people fail to take notice of the crucial roles they are playing in the nation. Because of this, they easily yield to temptations and the allure of ill-gotten quick wealth to indulge in acts of corruption. The mindset is that nobody notices or sees the importance of what they’re doing. Hence, the proclivity to yield to the trap of taking care of one’s future as is commonly said becomes very high as the belief is that no one of significance would ever take note of them. When people believe that eyes are watching them they tend to be more careful.

Food for thought: Not only did Pharaoh notice the crucial role played by the midwives. Most importantly, God took note of them and built them houses.

Declaration: And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses. Exodus 1:21
