Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we be filled with a spirit of boldness to fight the good fight of faith.

Note: Matthew 9:20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: 9:21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. 9:22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Shiphrah and Puah were two courageous Hebrew women whose resistance to the genocidal command from the king of Egypt, constituted the first known civil disobedience by women against organised authority. Their bold action succeeded during the height of the unbearable regime in Egypt when the Hebrews were made to serve with rigour, afflicted with heavy burdens and their lives made bitter with hard bondage, in saving the Hebrew nation from obvious extinction.

Civil disobedience against a palpably evil regime such as that of Pharaoh who was seeking to wipe out the male generation of the Hebrews, was an overt ploy of a desperate king whose strategies to frustrate the Hebrew work force with unreasonable work demands, only succeeded in getting both Hebrew men and women enamoured and rather strengthened to withstand tough times. Intimidation using fear tactics, failed to break the resolve of the Hebrew midwives in upholding the tenets of righteousness.

This was a regime that recognised Pharaoh’s commands as law. Yet, the two Hebrew midwives were prepared to put their lives on the line in preference to wickedly terminating the future of a whole nation. Holding on to our beliefs in God’s moral standards far outweighs the legal shackles of evil regimes in nations that seek to cower the people of faith into fear using obnoxious laws that demand verdict on the part of believers to earnestly contend for the faith as the two Hebrew midwives.

Food for thought: Confronting the fears and intimidation that seek to extinguish the light of our faith, is a battle worth fighting for.

Declaration: Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude 1:3
