Scripture: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6

Note: Both Joseph and Daniel possessed exceptional abilities to dream and understand dreams. Those gifts differentiated them from their brothers and friends. They were endowed with the gifts by God not for individual personal gain, but to serve the larger society and the interests of the world. Whereas those gifts catapulted them to the zenith of what society might call success, they were in those positions of authority and honour basically to render critical services to people.

Most people that find themselves in positions of authority and honour make the mistake of assuming that they are in those exalted positions by virtue of their own intelligence, hardwork, effort or connection to people in power. Such weak premise upon which power is founded, is faulty and shall never be able to withstand the test of time. Pride and an arrogant spirit always go before the fall of man. The so-called acknowledged wise men and magicians in the time of Joseph were actually crooks wearing the garb of wise men to deceive Pharaoh and the people for their personal gains. Their cups were full at the time favour located Joseph right from the darkness and depression of a hopeless life in the dungeon of Pharaoh.

The period of preparation for Joseph for the greatest day in his life took many convoluted years of torture, tears and threats. The threat of death from his own brothers were real; they were not the figment of his imagination. He saw it coming as his brothers openly talked of disposing of him to the other side of the world. Joseph heard those threats and he pleaded and cried all the tears of a passionate appeal to his brothers to no avail. It’s understandable for one to be faced with the threat of death from a total stranger or a known enemy, but not from your own blood brothers.

Grace intervened on behalf of Joseph during those passionate hours when he was on the precipice of death. Grace overturned the evil verdict of death, which was eventually commuted to being sold as a slave to strangers. The period of waiting for Joseph in the depressing conditions of life in the pit wasn’t the best to be expected, coming from his own brothers. But it spared his life from death. There was no food and no water for Joseph, but there was life for him. What Joseph didn’t know was that the cycle of sufferings into which he had been thrusted through, beginning with his brothers, was just the beginning of school in the wilderness of the Spirit. More sufferings awaited Joseph, under the supervision of the Holy Spirit, ministering through the medium of grace.

Food for thought: God’s favour will locate you for admission into the school of the Spirit in the wilderness of life. The curriculum is still grace.

Declaration: For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
