Scripture: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6

Note: Both Joseph and Daniel were blessed with the ability to dream and understand dreams. They were both gifted by God right from their youthful days. It was their unique gift of dreams and understanding dreams that was going to bring them before kings in their latter lives. As a youngster, Joseph had eleven other brothers and a sister. Yet, it was only Joseph that was blessed with this unique gift. Joseph was a serial dreamer. Unknown to him, his brothers hated him for his dreams. Joseph was younger except for his youngest brother who came after him. Unfortunately, he trusted his senior brothers by openly sharing his dreams with them.

Daniel on the other hand, lived with three other Hebrew youngsters that belonged to the royal lineage of Judah. Together, they had been carefully chosen by Nebuchadnezzar for the recognition of the special talents given them by God. They had cunning knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom, in understanding science. Aside these great attributes for which they were chosen to be trained to serve in the palace of Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel also had the ability to understand all visions and dreams (Daniel 1:17).

Both Joseph and Daniel were victims of predators, an action that violently found them in foreign lands. The predators in Joseph’s life were his own siblings; his brothers, with whom he made a mistake of trusting unreservedly, sharing his dreams joyfully with them. This mistake of Joseph’s was to see him being turned into a fugitive. Joseph survived their initial murderous intents, when they decided to make some money from him instead of killing him for nothing, before finally disposing of him to total strangers.

Daniel was a victim of the predatory attack from the armies of Nebuchadnezzar against king Jehoiakim of Judah. This was a reprisal punishment from God against the nation of Judah for abandoning the true worship of Yahweh, neglecting the Sabbath and following after other gods. Their loss of independence and liberty followed with a transition into a foreign land, reduced their status from princes to servants. These were action steps permitted by God to bring sobriety, repentance and restoration to the worship of the only true God.

Food for thought: A man’s gifts and talents will bring him before kings and cause him to walk in the corridors of power.

Declaration: As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. Daniel 1:17
