Scripture: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6
Note: Gomer was an impossible character of a wife to Hosea. After a countless number of interventions caused by failure on her part to abide by her marriage vows, Gomer, with a penchant for gullibility would so easily capitulate to the fantastic promises from her numerous lovers, with the hollow promise to lavish her with abundance and make her rich. She was easily captivated by the glamour of utopian living. This made her an easy and ready target for unscrupulous sexual predators.
Predators come in various forms and shapes. We are confronted with them in our everyday life decisions. Predators are basically con artists, deceivers and wicked people, who ruthlessly exploit the weaknesses, vulnerabilities and frailties of other people to their selfish and personal advantage. They pretend to have the welfare of their victims at heart, but beneath their scheme is a layer of deceit and deception that would finally leave the prey or victims badly disadvantaged, traumatised and often robbed of their dignity and wealth.
The numerous lovers of Gomer were predators who preyed on her natural beauty, her weakness in the area of sexual immorality and her inability to discern between the lines whenever they dangled the carrot in front of her. Gomer’s failure to control her insatiable carnal desires, even with the covering and protection that marriage brings to people, lacking the self control, marital decency, pride, dignity and the wisdom to uphold the tenets of a covenant relationship such as marriage, exposed her as a vulnerable target for manipulation and exploitation by her detractors.
What Gomer failed to realise through all the undying efforts of Hosea’s unfailing love for her, was a desire by the one man in her life who truly sought after her welfare. A lot of desperate married women looking for a solutions that they seem not to be getting from their husbands, surreptitiously creep into the fold of much trumpeted solution providers, only to realise rather too late that they had unwittingly walked into the traps and dens of predators. Gomer’s example was Israel’s reality. Israel failed to realise that Yahweh was the only true love in her life who could bring fulfilment and satisfaction to her life.
Food for thought: Satan is a predator, murderer, thief and a liar, whose only mission is to rob us of our lives, dignity and wealth.
Declaration: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
