Scripture: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6
Note: The critical interventions made by Hosea in his bid to salvage his marriage with Gomer began with pleading to her to desist from her adulterous lifestyle. Since this didn’t work, Hosea had followed up with threats of disinheritance. This had managed to bring some sanity as the fear of uncertainty of life in the streets was enough disincentive to dissuade Gomer from attempting the unthinkable. This phase of intervention seemed to have brought some stability to Gomer’s life for a while until she was faced with temptation that seemed to hammer on her main weaknesses.
Everyone has weaknesses that are normally brought to the fore as a result of one’s own wrongful desires. All desires that are considered wrongful are hurtful to one’s health, life ambitions and career. These desires or habits are directly at variance with God’s word. They conflict with the eternal wisdom and knowledge of God, which are timeless. God’s word is tried and tested for all ages and generations. God doesn’t do experiments and neither does He need to learn from an experience, having to fail, correct His mistakes and avoid repeating them as humans do.
Numbers 23:19, “God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: has He said, and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken, and He shall not make it good?” When God speaks, His words are true for all eternity. God isn’t bound by time, space and distance. He lives in eternity. That’s why when God speaks, His word should be taken into consideration with all the seriousness it deserves. Whenever God speaks concerning an issue in our lives, He’s doing so with our own good as His desire and purpose.
Hosea loved Gomer, and he was ready to go to any extent to save her from her self-destructive tendencies that so often sought to throw her into the streets. Inspite of Gomer’s unstable and inconsistent nature, Hosea was not ready to give up on her. Hosea’s attitude towards Gomer typified the graphic manner in which Yahweh had patiently tolerated Israel, beckoning her to turn away from the worship of Baal and the several other gods. If Hosea was willing to sacrifice so much for the sake of Gomer, then God will not so easily give up on us, having offered His only Son to come and die for the redemption of man.
Food for thought: Salvation is free; fully paid for, with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Declaration: For God so loved the world that, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
