Scripture: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6
Note: The people of Israel must have been steeped deeply in the arrogance of what they considered superior knowledge to the knowledge of God, for them to have irked God into a state of anger. When people attempt to compare the knowledge, wisdom and philosophies of men to the inerrant wisdom and knowledge of God, what they’re unknowingly doing is trying to pitch the warped wisdom and knowledge of man against the only omniscient God. The result of such futility is always going to end up in a predictably unpleasant manner.
The active rejection of the knowledge of God was the main reason that birthed the ministry of Hosea. What the prophet went through was directly a choreographed, unfolding judgment of his marriage being gradually revealed before the whole nation concerning what was about to befall them. Hosea went through 4 distinct stages in his life. The first stage was when the prophet was symbolically directed to take to himself a wife of whoredoms; a woman who was predisposed to multiple, adulterous lifestyle where many men were intimately involved with her life as lovers.
Anyone with a conscience in Hosea’s stead would have genuinely wished that what he was going through in the choice of a woman for wife was just a dream that he would soon wake up from in the world of reality. To compound his problem, this symbolic marriage was the word of the Lord that came to Hosea in his capacity as a prophet. Hosea had no doubt in his mind and conscience that this unusual instruction that defied the established expectations of society regarding marriage, was from God.
If Hosea ever had any wish to look like an upright man and an acceptable prophet in the eyes of the public, this instruction from God sentenced that wish to death. Hosea’s call as a prophet was basically to walk the talk of his Master and Lord, with no option to be a man pleaser in society. Many people desire for the glory of the calling without their readiness for the sacrifices that go with the calling. Walking the talk may come with cost in convenience, cost in public image and even cost in commonsense. But through it all, if it is God who put you through the mess, you can be sure He will be with you throughout your journey as you walk through the fire.
Food for thought: Whatever assignment God gives to a man, goes with the provision to accomplish the assignment.
Declaration: God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: has He said, and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken, and He shall not make it good? Numbers 23:19
