Scripture: And when they saw Joseph afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him. Genesis 37:18
Note: Both Joseph and Jesus needed the infilling of the Spirit of God before they began their earthly assignments. What we mostly observe within the Church of today in services and in prosecuting God’s agenda is the over-reliance and overemphasis by the Church on so-called man tested organisational abilities, proven strategies and modern techniques at the expense of the one most essential factor, without which everything will be pure exercise in vain glory, without the presence of God.
Competent organisation of events is important to ensuring an orderly, matured function that had been carefully thought through in detail and implemented according to plan. Things move swiftly and it is beautiful to behold the seamless coordination involved in the complexities of events where well respected people in society are usually expected to be present. Yahweh is a God of order. But in situations where all focus is taken away by our morbid fear of failure to ensuring that everything that’s visible to us goes according to plan without counting the cost of loss of valuable time and opportunities that could have been used on our knees in prayer crying out to God for His presence, is a display of misplaced priorities that should get us more worried or fearful about God’s absence from our midst.
After receiving the job description for who was supposed to occupy the new office of the Prime Minister of Egypt, Pharaoh, king of a heathen nation, identified and acknowledged the Spirit of God indwelling Joseph as the single most important reason why Joseph was the best person to occupy that office (Gen 41:38). Pharaoh understood that the Spirit of God indwelling a person made that person superior in wisdom to all the wise men and learned people in Egypt. Pharaoh appreciated the fact that having the Spirit of God indwelling a person made that person to function with the capacity of the mind of God.
Pharaoh had heard and seen enough of human eloquence, individual dexterity and previous experiences before arriving at his choice. Yet, he wasn’t swayed by any of these reasons. Pharaoh had gone through his moments of sleeplessness and depression and he wasn’t prepared for human experimentation. Pharaoh didn’t want someone who was going to warm up to the role, learning the ropes as he grows into the job. Pharaoh didn’t have the patience for all that. He wanted someone who had already passed through the school of the wilderness. Someone in whom dwelt the Spirit of God. Pharaoh was aware that having the mind of God was the most superior and most important ingredient required to sustain the soul of the nation. Pharaoh opted for Joseph without a shadow of doubt in the capability of his choice.
Food for thought: When the presence of God in the Church becomes the single most important factor, God will take His rightful position.
Declaration: And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Gen 41:41
