Scripture: And when they saw Joseph afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him. Genesis 37:18
Note: One significant common thing going for both Joseph and Jesus was that Yahweh was with them throughout their sufferings and trying times. The fact that Joseph was sold by his brothers instead of their innate desire to fulfill a long sought after dream to dispose of the one person they had so much hatred, envy and jealousy for, was because Yahweh wasn’t yet finished with Joseph. The hand of the Lord saw to it that Joseph was sold far away into Egypt, out from the range of their murderous sights, as God watched over his nurturing from a young dreamer into the most important person after Pharaoh.
In Egypt as a slave, the star of Joseph could not be dimmed, even when he plied his trade under the watchful eyes of the meanest executioner in Egypt at the time. Potiphar was his name and he happened to be Pharaoh’s chief executioner. Even Joseph’s master was impressed with the young lad. He put everything in his household under the care of Joseph, seeing that he could trust him and go to bed without having to worry his head over the business of his house. Gen 39:3, “His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands.”
Having been falsely accused of attempted rape by Potiphar’s wife, it’s a miracle that Joseph survived execution at the hands of the man who earned his daily bread for cutting off people’s heads for Pharaoh’s pleasure. Joseph survived the grave accusation from Potiphar’s wife. He survived the initial burst of anger from the man who owned him and could determine his fate on the spur of the moment. Getting thrown into Pharaoh’s prison for an offence that could incite the passions of the offended beyond rational thinking was a complete miracle.
While roasting in the confines of the dark, heavily guarded prison, Joseph managed to find favour at the hands of the Prison warden. This was someone whose offence charge read: “Attempted rape of his master’s wife.” Gen 39:21-23, “But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the Lord was with him. And whatever he did, the Lord made it to succeed.”
Food for thought: If God is in what you doing, He will make whatever your hands find doing to succeed.
Declaration: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Acts 10:38
