Scripture: And when they saw Joseph afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him. Genesis 37:18

Note: The supernatural transformation that took place in the lives of the eleven remaining disciples of Jesus after His death and resurrection, could not have been through a freak of an accident or coincidence. At His arrest, all the disciples fled away for fear of their lives. Peter’s triple denial of Jesus after he had sworn his undying commitment and loyalty to be with the Master to the end, was a clear example of the infectious fear that gripped the stricken disciples, forcing them into a hiding place.

After His arrest, trials and crucifixion, all the disciples were cowering in fear, hiding themselves from the public. After His resurrection and bodily appearance to the disciples, these same fear stricken people suddenly became bold; transformed overnight from people who would lie conveniently under unfavourable circumstances to protect their lives to boldly proclaiming that Jesus is alive! This transformation of the disciples couldn’t have been achieved through false pretensions of any human, especially after their massive disappointment of a crashed political dream that went into tatters the day they saw their Master arrested.

These disciples were hugely disappointed, discouraged and depressed. They had to run into a hideout. They had been placed in a situation where they felt embarrassed about themselves. Not only that, they had become an embarrassment to their friends and family, who saw in them an opportunity for transformation of their own domestic lifestyle when the apparent Messiah in-waiting Jesus Christ comes to finally sit on the throne. They had been looking forward to this strategic shift in power with anticipation, only for the dream to fizzle out suddenly, beginning with the backstabbing betrayal by Judas Iscariot, one of their own, followed by the shocking capitulation of Jesus to His arrest by their detractors.

Inspite of having to condescend so low into the abyss of disappointment, something supernatural happened to these badly beaten, low morale, wretched disciples that suddenly altered them from their low point to a sudden acceleration of boldness. This renewed hope in the disciples could only have come from the resurrected Jesus. He’s alive as He promised them before His death. In their eyes Jesus had done something that’s unprecedented in the annals of human history. He had done the impossible. He had overcome death. If death bowed to the authority and power of Jesus, then that equally puts them in the class of the invincibles. The threat of death died with the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Hallelujah!

Food for thought: Our faith is built upon a solid and robust foundation of God’s Word. No human or pathological threat can derail what we have believed.

Declaration: And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.” Matt 28:18
