Scripture: And when they saw Joseph afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him. Genesis 37:18
Note: The simplicity of the truth of the death of Jesus Christ as expressed in the four Gospels of the New Testament and in other non canonised historical evidence, presents a frightening and intimidating aspect of the Christian faith to adherents of other faiths. It’s therefore not surprising that other faiths who only came to existence, some six centuries after the advent of Christ, have sought to present their own side of what they refer to as historical evidence of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
One cannot be a believer in the physical death and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ without being confronted with other sides with varying views of history, other than that which is expressed in the Gospels. The sad truth is that many ignorant believers are unaware of the enormous power and impact that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ confront others with. The truth is that the proof of veracity of the death and resurrection of Jesus, is a summary death sentence on other faiths. The Jews understood this fact and its implication as proof of what they had known all along that it would take only the Messiah, the Son of the living God, to have died and risen from the dead.
Many people ordinarily accept the fact that Jesus lived, died and resurrected from the dead without questioning this spectacular occurrence as something that is unusual, unparalleled and unprecedented in the annals of history. No man, prophet or any founder of any religious grouping, ever succeeded in overcoming the death barrier since the time of Adam. Everyone known in history, became a victim of death and the grave. Everyone’s bones are in their tombs or graves. Yet, the tomb of Jesus Christ remains empty, without His bones. This is because God decided to loose the pangs of death on Him, since it was not possible for Him to be held by death (Acts 2:24).
The Jewish leaders in the time of Jesus were totally mortified by the news of His empty tomb. They understood the threat of His resurrection and its impact on Judaism. Having heard of the actual facts on the ground from the soldiers who kept watch at the tomb, the religious leaders resorted to take a quick action in what’s popularly referred to as local politics. Led by the chief priests, they assembled all the elders, and took counsel to bribe the soldiers with a huge amount of money, to silence them from leaking the truth of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Matt 28:11-15).
Food for thought: The proclivity of religious leaders to resort to indecent means of resolving issues, is a sickening example of the extent of their degeneration into the fallen world.
Declaration: And the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid: for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come see the place where the Lord lay.” Matt 28:5-6
