Topic: The Tabernacle of God 351
Scripture: But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this building. (Heb 9:11)
Note: 2Cor 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” The certainty with which the Apostle Paul spoke about the building of God, a house not made with human hands, was so reassuring that it is infectious with faith. He spoke as if the heavenly tabernacle with which we shall be clothed with when our present housing is dissolved, was in his possession. One common characteristic of the apostles and their followers was that they spoke as of they belonged to two countries.
Although the promised heavenly abode was not in their physical grasp, the language that came out from them spoke volumes of their faith, in speaking of those things that physically could not be seen with the naked eyes as though they are. Their overwhelming assurance in the infallibility of the promises of God, provided a solid ground of foundation for the basis of their faith in the substance of things hoped for (Heb 11:1).
It was true that the apostle had not died, gone to heaven and returned to earth to emphasize what he had witnessed, yet his trust in the infallibility of the word of God as the basis of the evidence of things not seen, but which he believed in, was enough assurance that He who had given them the title deeds to the promise of a building not made with human hands, will fulfill His promise. Once the word of God was in his hands, it was as good as a right to the title deeds of what the testator, Jesus Christ, had written in His will.
The witness of the Spirit with his spirit that he is a child of God, gives him authority and right to the title deeds. Rom 8:16-17, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
Food for thought: If Jesus promised it, what better testimony or evidence do we need?
