Topic: Safety is of the Lord 11

Reading: 1Sam 23:7-14

Scripture: And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars. (1Sam 23:7)

Note: Saul demonstrated a childish aspect of his life characteristically displayed by people who don’t understand how laws and principles governing systems and processes work. Saul loved to be pampered and appreciated by all as the first gentleman in Israel. He loved praises, appellations and titles; the things that men love and give honour and recognition to when they are able to attain a certain landmark achievement or historical significance.

People spend many years in school, including significant resources and residential time, going through matriculation, passing examinations, doing hard work within the confines of universities, doing research and working long hours in order to attain their doctorate degrees. There’s no shortcut to this attainment without the necessary sacrifices that may sometimes involve staying away from their loved ones and families for long periods of time that may go for months or even years. The pain, sweat and sacrifices that serve as inputs to the eventual attainment all turn to joy when success is finally attained.

Outside the confines of universities, individuals who attain recognizable feats within society through their efforts in providing exceptional solutions through ideas or philanthropic work and services to humanity, manage to catch the eyes of awarding institutions and universities, who through their discretionary powers are able to award honorary doctorate degrees to such recipients. Unfortunately, this process in awarding honorary doctorate degrees had in recent past been abused by unscrupulous people who manage to use monetary inducements in collaboration with awarding institutions and universities with suspicious pedigree desiring public attention, circumvent the process to get honorary doctorate degrees without the requirements of matriculation, residence and the usual sweat, pain and sacrifices that goes into passing examinations.

Saul desired a giant glory to himself but without the necessary giant confrontation that goes with the risks, pain, sweat, skills and fight in such encounters. He desired a cheap way out to the hearts of the people but wasn’t ready to endure the sacrifice of putting his life and throne on the line for the people.

Food for thought: Every throne goes with a measure of glory, but beneath all the fanfare are the sacrifices of pain and blood that went into setting up the throne.

Declaration: Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Heb 12:2)
