Topic: From the beginning it was not so 48

Scripture: He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. (Matt 19:8)

Note: Gen. 4:5-7, “But unto Cain and his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? And why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.”

The rejection of Cain’s offering led to disappointment, dejection, disillusionment and he was visibly disenfranchised. The first instance of man’s wrath was over religion. Cain chose his own prescription for sacrifice instead of what God prescribed for his parents. He probably thought that it was possible to get to God through several ways, just like many people erroneously believe today. He chose his own way, which is religion and was rejected. Religion has always been the greatest cause of conflicts, wars and bloodshed.

God warned Cain about the dangers and the consequences of his demeanour after his rejection. Instead of repenting and doing exactly what Abel did, he chose the path of anger, pride and rebellion, culminating in the premeditated murder of his only brother. The spirit of Cain still rules in our day. Brazen killing of innocent people in the name of religion is still rife in the 21st century. People are being coerced into denying their faith in Christ by ISIS or get beheaded. Al-Shabab selectively committed genocide against Christian students in a Kenyan University. 12 Ethiopian Christians were murdered in Libya by ISIS, and several more, just to mention but a few. Murdering others in the name of religion is outrightly satanic. It would only invite the anger of God against you, just like Cain.

Food for thought: Religion may destroy our body, but it can never take Christ from our hearts.

Declaration: And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matt 16:18)
