Topic: The empty tomb 54
Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15
Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)
Note: Paul and the other writers of the New Testament always drew a strong distinction between an appearance of Jesus and a vision of Jesus. It was never left to one’s imagination to decipher the difference between an appearance and a vision of Jesus, and neither could we allude to the inspired writers being shy, confused or lacking understanding of the essential differences.
The proponents of the objective vision hypothesis had sought an occasion to impute a difference in the choices of vocabulary and to use their self-imposed faulty inference to create a non existing confusion between the two experiences.
Dr. Luke’s narrative in the Book of Acts concerning the journey of Saul from Jerusalem to Damascus, who later became Paul, whose conversion experience with Jesus had an extra-mental element about it that made it an appearance and not just a vision, was quite clear. It was obvious that when the bright light shone on Saul and his entourage on the failed mission to Damascus to effect arrests of the saints, murder some and cripple the infant church, the Lord calling the name of Saul audibly from heaven, with the men that journeyed with him becoming speechless, as they equally heard the voice that spoke, even though they didn’t see a man (Acts 9:7).
Saul, like any Jewish bigot, believed sincerely that they were doing God’s bidding when he persecuted the saints, arresting them for jail and possible execution. He believed he had a noble mission and he executed it with passion. He pursued his human mission religiously until Grace located him. My prayer today is that Grace will locate someone for a destiny defining journey with God.
Food for thought: When Jesus speaks, all other men become speechless and completely immobilized.
Declaration: And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. (Acts 9:7)
