Topic: The Tabernacle of God 347
Scripture: But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this building. (Heb 9:11)
Note: 2Cor 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” The dissolution of our old tabernacle according to the order of the first Adam, saw the believer put on the new man according to the order of the last Adam, who is Christ Jesus the Lord. The dissolution of the old tabernacle witnessed in the new man the death of legalism and performance based religion which has its foundation in the law.
The law in itself was holy and without blame, yet it produced in us failure and death, because the people did not act in faith. A case in point was when Moses sent the 12 selected leaders of all the 12 tribes of Israel to go and spy out the promised land. The report from these trusted people was an overwhelming verdict of 10 people not in favour of attempting conquest of the land against only 2 men who believed that they were well able to take the land by faith, God being their help.
Unfortunately for Moses and the rest of the people who were all in earnest expectation of the much awaited report, the power of democracy won over faith. The demonstrated passion, zeal and faith of Joshua and Caleb in the ability of God to give them the land notwithstanding, the evil report from the majority spies carried sufficient venom to inflict on Israel discouragement, wailing, a sense of hopelessness, failure and death. The people had so soon forgotten the spectacular miracle God wrought on their behalf in the crossing of the Red sea, when they suffered not a single casualty to both man and beast.
They also managed to abandon God and the works of His hands through His servant Moses in Egypt. This spectacular mark of ungratefulness and failure to believe in God’s ability to give them the land brought them into collision course with God, who swore in His anger to visit death on all people twenty years old and above that came out of Egypt not to see the promised land. What was supposed to bring joy, triumph, praises and dancing, rather turned into mourning, death and aimless wandering in the wilderness (Num 32:7-13).
Food for thought: When the heart is discouraged, faith cannot operate.
Declaration: And the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was consumed. (Num 32:13)
