Topic: The Tabernacle of God 343
Scripture: But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this building. (Heb 9:11)
Note: 2Cor 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” When death messed up the life of Lazarus, it knew that the task was accomplished the moment the young man took in his last breath. Death had exercised dominion over man ever since Adam sold his birthright in exchange for the price of disobedience. The ruthless power of death had been total and unfortunately predictable to any human who falls victim to its vicious power.
Four days in the grave was done and dusted for Lazarus. The processes preceding the burial of Lazarus were sufficiently adequate to ensure his eventual death. Having passed through the processes of embalming and bandaging of the entire body from head to toe, Lazarus wouldn’t have required the further help of death to die. He would have been completely asphyxiated through man centered traditional practices that took place prior to his four days’ journey of no return to the grave.
Col 2:8, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Much as the traditions of men had succeeded in using its advantage to ensure repeatability of norms and standards, in helping to sustain social cohesion, transferring knowledge from one generation to the other through education and practices, the traditions of men have also in a significant way contributed to the retardation of our society, as the need for obvious changes are often looked at with suspicion. The usual resort to caveats of taboos and abominations have often succeeded in injecting infectious fear among people, creating stagnation, backwardness and unnecessary barriers against progress.
Clever, anti-progress people within our society have successfully capitalized on the fear mentality regarding traditions of men, philosophized on loopholes in our traditions and deceitfully flown on the wings of the fear factor to enforce legalism and way of life of society to their pecuniary advantage. These monuments of men have often selfishly stood as impedance to the propagation of the Gospel of the kingdom of God. The word of God is often seen as an enemy in this regard. People who propagate the Gospel of Jesus Christ are treated with all the viciousness deserving of society wreckers, in order to protect their parochial business interests in the name of tradition.
Food for thought: The word of God is the wisdom of God freely made available to humanity.
Declaration: For in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Col 2:9
