Topic: The empty tomb 1
Reading: Luke 24
Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)
Note: There are many infallible proofs of the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, but the testimony of the empty tomb is the most emphatic, conclusive and incontrovertible evidence of all, unparalleled in the annals of history for all humanity. Not a single spiritual leader, Prophet, Master or even claims from the metaphysical world have been able to lay any claim closer to such an outrageous occurrence.
Jesus had been buried, with the tomb sealed and guarded by a watch of Roman soldiers. Yet on the third day of His burial, on the morning of the first day of the week, the body was no longer there, and the empty tomb still stands today as an unanswerable proof that the Lord Jesus rose from the dead.
If the enemies of Jesus had taken His body, they would have shown it to prove that He had not risen. If the disciples had taken His body, they would never have sacrificed their lives and possessions for what they knew to be a grand stage managed lie. The empty tomb confirmed that Jesus did arise and truly was the Son of God.
There are other proofs, of course. The more than ten recorded appearances of the resurrected Christ to His disciples, the amazing change of demeanour of the disciples from that of fearful hide-aways to fearless evangelists, the worldwide spread of the Christian faith as founded on the resurrection, give credence to the place and impact of the empty tomb on our faith.
Food for thought: Only a fool will sacrifice his life and possessions for what he knows to be a palpable lie.
Declaration: Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day arise again. (Luke 24:7)
