Topic: The empty tomb 77

Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15

Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)

Note: The ultimate purpose of God when He put the law in charge of His people, was for the law to lead them to Christ. God being the Creator of man, is aware of man’s capabilities, strengths, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. The dietary laws especially, were tailored by God to bring them the benefits of healthy diets based on the available knowledge and sanitary awareness in that era.

When the law was offered to the people under the leadership of Moses, they all chanted with instant chorus: “All that the Lord has asked us to do in the law, we shall obey.” God is innately aware that by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified before Him. What God would have expected the people to do when they were saddled with the law, was for them to ask God to give them the grace and the strength to fully fulfill the requirements of the law.

Unfortunately, the people failed to do that, choosing rather to rely on their own strengths. God gave them the chance, dispensation and time, to test man’s efforts, works, strengths and intelligence against the law. God knew what this self-will experiment by the strength of the people will come to, but He was patient enough to allow them to have their time, to bring man to the point of his own helplessness and anguish, recognising that it would take God Himself to make provision for man’s redemption.

That was the reason why God gave this injunction to Moses in the building of the ark, that symbolised the sanctuary of the Lord: “Look that thou make them after the form and pattern which were showed thee on the mount.” Exo.25:9. Everything that was done during the era of the law was a foreshadow of the things to be fulfilled in the coming Messiah.

Food for thought: The law did its job in ultimately, faithfully leading the people to receive the life-giving knowledge that is in Christ Jesus.

Declaration: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. (Heb. 8:5)
