Topic: From the beginning it was not so 69
Scripture: He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. (Matt 19:8)
Note: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)
The strange but not surprising marriage of convenience between the religious rulers headed by Caiaphas, and the political head of Jerusalem, Pilate, only became a reality after a plethora of failures; among them, false accusations, blatant lies by the accusers, series of entrapments based on moral and ceremonial laws that all failed before the wisdom of Jesus Christ.
In desperation, the religious rulers engineered a treasonable offence of subversion against Christ, alleging that Jesus made himself a king, an act that would bring him into direct collision with Rome. Being political, it naturally caught Pilate’s attention, as that was a serious accusation worthy of the death penalty. Pilate’s mastery at cross examination found no iota of truth in the wild allegations of subversion against Christ.
The bending of the rules of law and justice by Pilate, a political authority, in tandem with the religious rulers, cashing in on an innocent life such as Christ’s, really cast a sad and forlorn image of naked robbery, treachery, backstabbing, lies, deceit, betrayal, falsehood, unbelievable hatred and the wicked extent to which men in cassock were prepared to go, so low, as far as the gutters, to see the back of one man whom they knew stood for the truth.
Food for thought: For death could not hold him captive. Even in the grave, Jesus is Lord.
Declaration: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. (John 11:25)
