Topic: The Tabernacle of God 364

Scripture: But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this building. (Heb 9:11)

Note: 2Cor 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” The housing of man’s soul just like the tent, is easily taken down at death. The frailty in the construct of the body, made from dust, means that when eventual destination is reached, separation between soul and body takes place. The body which is the housing for our soul, returns to the dust from which it came from.

The point of destination for the soul means that it has reached the point of rest, a settled habitation. The several inconvenient movements that took place while the soul dwelt in a movable house, carried from place to place, ceases. It’s interesting to note that this point of destination expected to be a fixed habitation, launches a new phase which characterizes a period of rest, joy, peace and permanence. Unfortunately, this good news isn’t exactly the same for everyone.

This is what Jesus had to say to His troubled disciples who weren’t so sure of their future destination when they would eventually be exiting this life through the separation that comes from death. In John 14:1-3, Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

The import of Christ’s statement was to provide assurance to His disciples. Assurance in a man’s heart brings peace and calmness to a troubled soul. In our world of diversity of faiths among people of diverse cultural backgrounds, many people have found themselves following one leader or the other. Unfortunately, most of those founders of faiths don’t know their own fate after this life, to be in a position to provide assurance to troubled disciples. The nearest assuring words they could tell their members is for them to keep doing good so that their righteousness will outweigh their sins.

Food for thought: It is a pathetic sight to behold, seeing the blind leading the blind.

Declaration: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags, and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6
