Topic: Safety is of the Lord 30

Reading: 1Sam 23:7-14, 1Sam 18

Scripture: And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars. (1Sam 23:7)

Note: Finally, Michal was handed over to David by Saul as his wife, after paying three dowries to the same person for one wife. Even that wasn’t the end of David’s troubles. There was no iota of doubt that Michal loved David. Unfortunately, she was a carefully packaged snare by Saul, specifically tailored for David’s eventual demise. Saul’s battlecry in the palace had continually been that, “David must be killed, if we’re to save the throne.”

Unfortunately for Saul, all his efforts at preserving the throne as a family dynasty, were always under threat from Michal and Jonathan, who had different ideas. Michal loved David to bits. She couldn’t be blamed for falling in love to the young lion of Judah. Out from nowhere, without formal military experience and the physical benefits of a well developed muscles of an adult, David stood out from the rest of Israel with the camaraderie, courage and confidence of a warrior to face the fearsome Goliath.

This was no mere guts based on presumption and youthful exuberance by David. It was confidence based on his relationship with God. David knew his God and this knowledge of the capability of the God of heaven and all the earth, Jehovah, to deliver him from the paws and the jaws of the lion and the bear, when they came preying after his sheep, is able to bring a repeat of the victory and deliverance of yesterday into the NOW. David was strong in the knowledge of the Lord and this was the secret behind his great exploits, including the killing of Goliath.

Saul wasn’t the only person who heard and saw the intricate steps of the women singing and dancing joyously to the victory of David over Goliath. Of course Michal also heard and saw it. She saw the graceful dance of the women and the lyrics blurring out, all in singular admiration of David. She had never heard of any better melodious song in her ears in Israel more than that day. It was sweet music to her ears. She wasn’t the only woman trapped in admiration. Many thousand other girls would have wished for a wink from David in their direction. It’s true she had an advantage. She was the king’s daughter. But at this material moment, David was simply too hot. He had become an instant celebrity. A national asset cherished and adored by all, except Saul.

Food for thought: Knowledge of God and the strength that comes from God’s word, are the keys to doing great exploits.

Declaration: And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. (Daniel 11:32)
