Topic: The hour of the Glory
Reading: Luke 19:28-40
Scripture: And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen. (Luke 19:37)
Note: In expressing praise, worship, joy and gladness to the Lord for what they had seen and were witnessing right before their very eyes; the mighty works that could only have come from God Almighty; the miracles, healings, deliverances, their dead being raised back to life; the spontaneity of the multitude in response to the approaching last entry of Christ to Jerusalem was awesome.
The only exception to this unfolding melodrama of a beautiful sight were the Pharisees. It was an atmosphere of praise when without a leading choir and organised leadership for this spontaneous loud shouts of hosanna being sung to God from the lowest person, the untutored, the unlettered in the law, the common man in the streets who acknowledged and accepted that he’s a sinner, across all classes of the religious divide to Jesus’ disciples was this symphony of praise that took no recognition of the religious status quo, the enemies of Christ and the conspiracy police, that’s the Pharisees.
Praise was ascending to God, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. It had only one direction; ascending up, everything else could wait. The correctors could wait. The law professors could wait. The religious authority could wait. No one acknowledged them. No one noticed their protests. The King of kings, the Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, the deliverer, was riding on a donkey coming in power, majesty and glory. It was a momentary display of the glory of heaven on earth when the King rode on the earth into Jerusalem.
Of course, the Pharisees did what they knew best: trying to stop the spontaneous praise of the people. You cannot blame them, for that’s what they had been doing in all their entire miserable life, stopping the move of God. But this time, it was different. It was the hour of the glory. No man-made, orchestrated movement could alter anything to the disadvantage of heaven in the hour of the glory.
Food for thought: When it’s the hour of the glory, simply get out of the way. It’s better to flow with the glory than to resist it.
Declaration: And he answered and said unto them, “I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.” (Luke 19:40)
