Topic: From the beginning it was not so 67
Scripture: He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. (Matt 19:8)
Note: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)
The passion of Jesus Christ, leading to unusual torments, taunting, mockery, deriding and name calling, served as an uncommon platform for political expediency; uniting two sworn Roman enemies in the persons of Pilate and Herod, who held jurisdiction for Jerusalem and Galilee respectively.
This was the same Herod that beheaded John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus. They were cousins. Herod had always desired to see Jesus doing an exhibition of a miracle for him to attest to, for he had heard so much about Christ. Steeped in iniquity, and for beheading a man of God simply for the price of a licentious dance by a young lady, the hardness of Herod’s heart was not worth deserving of the derogatory exhibition act or even a word of response from Jesus.
This cheeky slap in the face of Herod by Jesus in refusing to talk to Herod, so enraged him that in anger, Herod asked his men of war to enrobe Jesus with an expensive and gorgeous royal apparel deserving of a king. That singular act of Herod was the epitome of mockery of the so-called king of the Jews. Inspite of all this denigration, Jesus knew that at the root of all these happenings was satan, who was manipulating ignorant, willing men for his evil purpose.
Food for thought: Be careful of the trappings of spiritual exhibitionism for fame and popularity. It is satanic.
Declaration: And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him. Then he questioned him with many words; but he answered him nothing. (Luke 23:8-9)
