Topic: The Tabernacle of God 362

Scripture: But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this building. (Heb 9:11)

Note: 2Cor 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” This temporary house is unfortunately exposed to the dangers of the elements. It lives in danger both from within and without. The external storms of life that beat on the body from every side and angle, are always a clear and present danger. Pathological disorders and diseases from within are always working ceaselessly to undermine the integrity of the body in a vicious bid to finally bring it to destruction.

Inspite of all the relentless attacks from within and without the body, it’s to be recognized that our earthly house of this tabernacle is a masterpiece of God’s workmanship. This temporary earthly housing embodies the admirable wisdom of God manifesting through His excellent, artistic workmanship. The human housing represents a complex mix of beauty and majesty, carefully and thoughtfully interwoven in function and spirituality so as to leave no one in doubt of the truth that we were created in the image of God.

The descriptions of the Psalmist as regards the complexity, beauty, majesty and awesomeness of God’s masterpiece creation, are aptly captured in Psalm 139:14, “I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are your works; and that my soul knows right well.” Caught in the wonder and awesomeness of God’s wisdom and creation, the Psalmist acknowledged that it’s only Jehovah Elohim who knows the very secrets that He configured us with; for we were infused and endued with secret supernatural capabilities for the special assignments that He has for everyone of us.

Yet, what we see and acknowledge as a masterpiece of His creation, cannot be compared with the new heavenly, everlasting body which is the tabernacle that’s designed to live in harmony with His unchangeable and excellent, adorable nature for eternity. This new housing is not vulnerable or susceptible to vicious attacks as in the earthly realm. It’s beyond exposure. Death has no power over it. It’s a housing made for the glory of eternity.

Food for thought: Our life on earth is preparation for everlasting life.

Declaration: For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 2Cor 5:4
