Topic: The empty tomb 70
Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15
Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)
Note: It cost God His only Son to be able to bring redemption to man. Man’s disobedience and rebellion through Adam set man unimaginably back, setting him on a collision course against God, thus inviting the inevitable wrath of God against man.
The weight of God’s anger measured against the expectations of man, in what man expected the promised Messiah, the expected deliverer to come and do on earth, exposed the poverty of man’s ignorance and the emptiness of his misplaced priorities viewed against the weight of eternal separation from God.
Man had no idea the extent of wrath that he had attracted from God due to his rebellion in Adam. The nature of God’s justice could not allow sin to go unpunished. The wages of sin is death and without the shedding of blood there’s no remission of sin. Someone had to die for the redemption of man.
But God loved man so much that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to come and die for man, so that everyone who believes on Jesus will not perish but have everlasting life. What an amazing demonstration of love! God knew that death on the cross for the Messiah was inevitable. But God was ready to offer His only Son as a sacrifice to face a humiliating death on the cross so that man, who was facing the death sentence could be redeemed.
Food for thought: Do you believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as God’s provision for man’s redemption?
Declaration: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
