Daily Manna – March 18, 2016
Topic: Where are we going, Ghana?
Reading: 1Chronicles 22

Scripture: Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the Lord an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto. (1Chron 22:14)

Note: Ghanaians are a nation that love and adore their politics than good roads, accessible hospitals, solid education for their children and their future, good drinking water, we are not very much worried about contaminated rivers that serve as sources of drinking water for the citizenry which are gradually getting decimated by galamsey miners, some of them foreigners. We are not offended by maternal mortality, malnutrition and even our own lack of personal security.

What worries us and preoccupies us is our politics. We spend the whole day debating politics. We are ready to plot against our political opponents and perceived enemies, strategise for victory, defend our political idols and ideology even to the detriment of our own lives. We are ready to die and criminally kill for our political idols and ideology. We love these things than our own lives, our future and even our own children.

We seem funny, strange and seemingly bereft of commonsense and judgment. Natural reasoning backed by popular commonsense has become alien to us, in fact a scarce commodity in our body politic. We are overwhelmed with external influences to the detriment of our marriages and families. We are a people that seem to have sown to the wind and reaping the whirlwind.

Lack of intelligence, brain power and commonsense could certainly not be the sources of our lack of focus on the essential things of life. Ghanaians living abroad who have distinguished themselves beyond expectation are living example of how blessed we are as a nation. Kofi Annan is a living proof of Ghanaians that overachieved by serving two terms as UN Secretary General.

David knew the secret to developing a healthy nation when he summoned the princes, the priests and the Levites to dedicate their hearts and souls entirely to God, the building of the temple and the restoration of true worship. This transformation agenda was imbibed by Solomon, his successor, growing to become the wealthiest and wisest king during his reign. No wonder Solomon said in the book of Proverbs that, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding (Proverbs 9:10).

Food for thought: May Africa be imbued with the leadership of David and the wisdom of Solomon.

Declaration: If the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do? (Psalms 11:3)
