Topic: Jesus saves
Scripture: And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. (Matt 14:32)
Note: All this while that Jesus walked on the sea as he approached the ship carrying his disciples, the sea was still boisterous, as the wind kept raging uncontrollably. So, when Peter dared to take Jesus at his word, acknowledging him as Lord and Master, it wasn’t lost on Peter about the dangerous prevailing conditions threatening the lives of the cowards still trapped in the comfort of an unsafe ship.
Before we cast the first stone of criticism at Peter for being irrational, impulsive and for failing himself miserably after he had begun to successfully walk on water, it is important to acknowledge that not many people, if not none, from the time of the eleven cowards trapped in the ship till today’s believers would even dare to walk on still waters, without the threat of a raging storm.
It’s so easy for believers of today to be quick to open their mouths to cast criticisms and aspersions at others who failed while trying to do something. How easy it is to forget that we have no track records of any achievements of our own, yet we look down on others who would dare to take Jesus at his word. Peter failed finally when fear of the raging wind took his attention off Jesus, but the good news is that he had a measure of success. Do we have anything to show as a measure of success?
Food for thought: Jesus’ entry into the ship brought an end to the trouble of the raging wind. Is your life raging with troubles and issues threatening your life, your work and your marriage, causing fear and panic? Jesus is the answer. Put him into the centre of your life today.
Declaration: Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. (Rev 3:20)
