Topic: The empty tomb 68

Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15

Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)

Note: The efficacy of the cross of Christ, its eternal value and full essence has never fully been understood by man. That was the reason why inspite of the numerous prophetic utterances in the Old Testament, both Rabbis and students of the Torah never understood nor anticipated a suffering Messiah who shall die an excruciating death on a shameful and accursed thing as the cross.

It was hidden from the wise and the learned. It was hidden from Satan, his cohorts and the powers that operated in darkness. The cross is the masterpiece of God’s wisdom and power. The strong, the powerful rulers of the earth with all their sophisticated weaponry and mastery in the strategies of war, all lost the plot in deciphering the divinely orchestrated wisdom of God that was deployed at the slaughterhouse of Golgotha.

It was a scene where obvious betrayal, cruelty, wickedness, injustice, defeat, shame, humiliation and above all, sin, death and Satan seemed to have gained the ultimate upper hand over the only begotten Son of God. The destiny of man seemed destined for eternal hopelessness.

But thank God that these merciless fiends and their human religious leaders all got the plot so wrong. Just when mockery, taunting, spitting in the face and being stripped naked were about to blurt out in spontaneous joy over an unbelievable victory, Jesus proclaimed “It is finished.” Man’s mourning was instantly turned into dancing. Man became quickened in his spirit once again. The news? All the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, has been taken away, nailing it to the cross, having spoiled principalities and powers, making a public show of them, openly triumphing over them.

Food for thought: “My sins were nailed to the cross of Christ at the slaughterhouse of Golgotha.” Is this also your confession?

Declaration: Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Col.2:14-15)
