Topic: From the beginning it was not so 62

Scripture: He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. (Matt 19:8)

Note: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)

Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. The One who was before Abraham. He was before Adam. He is the first born of all creation. He was there before the foundation of the earth. By him, through him and for him was everything created. He who possessed the whole world in his hands, hanged shamelessly naked and seemingly helpless on a cursed cross alongside evil-doers, criminals, villains, base fellows as a public show to the whole world.

Masterminded by satan, together with his cohorts, the High Priest, Caiaphas and the religious establishment, the religious rulers derided him, making mockery of his ability to save others, yet bereft of any power to save himself. Ignorant of the purpose of his mission on earth as the Messiah, and the gospel, satan and the religious rulers thought they had won an important victory and silenced their most troublesome enemy once and for all.

Yet it was only a pyrrhic victory founded on ignorance, unfortunately backed by treachery, backstabbing and the wickedness of the heart of man. As he hanged pitifully to the mind of the onlookers and painfully as blood poured freely and relentlessly from the veins of the man Jesus, who never knew sin and who had the power to save himself yet refused to do so, he didn’t see the misery of painful death. He saw the wretchedness of the heart of man and the need for forgiveness and redemption.

Food for thought: Pyrrhic victory is useless victory.

Declaration: And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shall thou be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:42-43)
