Topic: The empty tomb 15
Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15
Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)
Note: Jesus gave specific instructions to the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father until they had been empowered with the Spirit of God for ministry. This promise of the Spirit was made just before Christ ascended before them to heaven.
It’s pertinent to note that the manifestation of the outpouring of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost would not have been an experiential reality if Jesus had not risen from the dead and exalted at the right hand of God. The fulfillment of the promise was further proof that he overcame death and is risen up in glory.
It’s a known fact of life that dead men don’t talk. As a Gà, I know that during celebration of annual Homowo festival, sprinkling of the traditional food “kpokpoi” is performed by the elders. This food is meant specifically for the nourishing of the departed family members and ancestors. This sprinkling is done generously to include choice fishes.
My candid observation shows that the sprinkled food would normally remain on the floor until it’s either swept off the following morning or eaten by pets, who get a windfall of choice fish that would normally be given only to elders, not even children. The departed souls are unable to make use of the food that is served them, at least not to our sighting. However, after the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, he did eat fish together with the apostles. He talked to their hearing and Thomas can confirm that, even when he went further to inspect his palms and his pierced side. He wasn’t a ghost. His promise of the empowerment with the Spirit was fulfilled. Jesus Christ is Lord indeed.
Food for thought: Jesus Christ watches over His Word to perform it.
Declaration: Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it. (Jer. 1:12)
