Topic: The empty tomb 65

Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15

Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)

Note: The cross is the only provision made by God for the redemption of lost humanity. The cross is God’s power to save. Human wisdom, doing penitence, ritual ablution, philosophies and beliefs of good, intelligent and powerful men, offering sacrifices with the shedding of blood – both human and animal or even huge amounts of money, self-denial in search for the truth, performing and fulfilling the rigid requirements of religion, are all not sufficient grounds to merit the salvation that God freely offers to man through the shed blood of His only Son, Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.

Salvation is by grace through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. It is freely offered to man. It’s not based on merit, education, experience or the depth of individual’s wisdom. Ability to win religious arguments through eloquence, logic and intelligence, is not a prerequisite for salvation. Human eloquence is not a substitute for Holy Spirit anointing, wisdom and power.

The journey into redemption will bring everyone into confrontation with the truth or otherwise on the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Everyone will either have to accept or reject the decision concerning the cross at one moment in their lives.

What is your decision on the cross today? Do you choose to trust in your intellectual prowess, your beliefs and religion or in the eternal wisdom of God’s Word? Is your trust in your wealth or financial influence that you wield over people or in the richness of God’s grace, power and wisdom through the cross? Do you choose to trust in your strength which can fail at any moment or in your beauty that can soon vanish through one freak accident or in the enduring grace of God’s wisdom and power through the cross?

Food for thought: It’s only through the cross of Jesus that sins are cancelled.

Declaration: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Eph.2:8-9)
