Topic: The empty tomb 90
Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15
Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)
Note: “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” (Isa. 40:22)
Isaiah was looking beyond the captivities of God’s people, and in this context he was extolling the magnificence of God in his sevenfold comparison of God and His relative size to that of the earth, God and all the inhabitants of the earth who are like grasshoppers before Him. He stretches out the heavens as a curtain similar to what we have in our homes on our windows and doors, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in.
The Princes, Judges and all others who oppose the divine plan regardless of their power and wealth, are no real hindrance to God. He can and does remove and make them as nothing and as vanity whenever they get in His way.
Isaiah’s understanding of who God really is, from his viewpoint as human, must have been sufficient food for thought for Israel under the leadership of Moses at Kadeshbarnea, when the ten spies brought the news of the evil report on the promised land. For someone who didn’t witness the unbelievable miracles in Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea, these descriptions of Isaiah would have inspired faith and confidence in Israel that the giants they saw, who are also inhabitants of the earth, are after all as small and powerless in size, strength and awe, in comparison to God.
Food for thought: Just like Isaiah, we do not need to physically witness the spectacular miracles in Egypt and a dividing of the sea, before we choose to believe that our God is really a giant killer.
Declaration: Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed. (John 20:29)
