Topic: From the beginning it was not so 86

Scripture: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)

Note: The unexpected appearance of Jesus to the fretting disciples in the middle of the stormy sea was expected to bring joy and hope to them. Instead, it brought trouble, fear and panic, due to the unconventional and unexpected mode of transport that Jesus used in getting to them. They thought they had seen a ghost.

The mind is a very powerful platform in the human enterprise. Though the eyes serve as the primary organ for sight, it’s what the mind chooses to conceive or perceive that the eyes will see. Upbringing from childhood, based on specific culture, environmental factors, education and the things that we get exposed to, all contribute greatly to shape the thinking and thought life of the individual. Proverbs 23:7, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he….”

A combination of the factors enumerated above, contribute enormously in the creation of the phenomenon called fear in every human. This tool called fear, is used greatly by the devil to ensnare, enslave, imprison, paralyze and control people, putting them in subservience to his machinations of deception and subjugation. Jesus wants us to look to him and not be afraid. His reassuring words to the disciples in Matthew 14:27, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” serve to bring hope and encouragement that are founded upon his limitless power and intense personal love for all who truly belong to him.

Food for thought: You need not worry and walk in fear if you truly belong to Jesus.

Declaration: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6-7)
