Topic: The empty tomb 12

Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15

Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)

Note: The spiritual shift in the atmosphere on the day of Pentecost that that birthed out 120 men and women full of the Holy Spirit, was the flame that lit up Christianity with a wave of revivalistic evangelism that swept across the known world with manifestations of signs and wonders, preaching about the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

The religious establishment was paralysed with awe and shock, the boldness of the apostles and the power of the gospel. The speed with which the preaching of the resurrected Christ was spreading was too intimidating and horrifying to the religious establishment. They run the risk of irrelevance and extinction. They had exhausted their machinations and manipulations. The only option left to them was to use threats and physical intimidation in their pathetic attempt at gagging the preaching of the word in the name of Jesus.

The name Jesus Christ became a much vaunted name. It was interestingly feared by the enemies of Christ even much more than they feared satan. They bought Christ’s betrayal, his death and his resurrection. Yet they failed to keep him in the grave where they wanted him to be. It was their hope, their desire and their dream to keep the Son of God buried in the dark abyss of the grave, death and corruption, forgotten history and hopelessness, but God had a different idea.

In diverse ways, we all walk through the dark alleys of life, sometimes in hopelessness of a terminal disease, abject poverty and sometimes finding ourselves in extremely unfortunate circumstances beyond human redemption. But in all these situations, God has a different idea.

Food for thought: The devil and his cohorts do not have the last word on our destiny.

Declaration: And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. (Acts 4:1-2)
