Topic: From the beginning it was not so 84
Scripture: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)
Note: Peter, a crew member of the infamous three sleeping disciples was there with the rest of the disciples on the boat that had been dispatched by Jesus to go to the other side, while he dealt with dismissing the huge crowd who had followed him to the desert, becoming witnesses to one of the most amazing miracles in the feeding of the five thousand men with five loaves and two fishes; a miracle that in reality, saw the feeding of men, women and children in excess of twenty thousand in number.
As was his habit, Jesus wanted to be alone so that he could spend quality time with God in prayer. In the evening, by which time the departing disciples would have made several nautical miles from land in their travel by sea, the boat ran into a storm. Unfortunately, this time around, there was no Jesus in the boat; sleeping or awake. He was alone in the desert, praying.
Just when they would begin to fret, get worried and be thrown into exasperation, Jesus knowing their perilous situation at that particular time, appeared to them walking on the sea. Jesus defied every barrier that stood in the way of his desire to help the troubled disciples by overcoming two laws that regulate the operation of nature; the laws of gravity and flotation. The waters could not sink Jesus, and the disciples were eye witnesses to this feat.
Food for thought: Jesus knows our impossible situations and the adverse conditions that are currently militating against us. But we draw our strength in the knowledge that he is ever faithful, always ready to offer us present help in the time of our need.
Declaration: But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matt 14:27)
