Topic: The empty tomb 88

Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15

Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)

Note: “The voice of the people is the voice of God.” This is a very popular saying that is often echoed around the globe, notably by politicians whenever the majority of the people opt in their favour or for a particular party after an election. In such situations, it is normally concluded that the people have spoken and democracy has prevailed.

Democracy has come to be accepted worldwide as currently the most popular or the most universally acceptable form of electing people to form a government. When the twelve spies returned from spying out the land of Canaan, which is the promised land, the verdict from the espionage was overwhelming; 10 against 2. As is naturally expected, the people went in favour of the most popular choice, democracy. They believed and accepted the testimony of the 10 spies, which was a negative report. God’s word described the negative report more seriously as an evil report.

The people accepted the verdict in the natural, because it was their predisposition to think in the natural. Yet, the Lord God that brought them out from slavery in Egypt is a supernatural God who used supernatural power to bring about their redemption from the clutches of Pharaoh. What the 10 spies failed to realise was that Israel was a nation that was birthed out through the supernatural exploits of God. The nation of Israel also failed to realise that the report on the promised land was indirectly a referendum on the abilities and capabilities of God. Pitting the natural against the supernatural was the lowest ebb in the life of Israel as a nation.

The wailing from the people, when the news of the evil report from the 10 spies broke out, was a dirge that was being sung for the death of the theocracy, which is the rule of God. Democracy had succeeded in a coup d’etat over the rule of theocracy, which is God’s system of governance.

Food for thought: When man rejects God, the only option left for him is death. Life sustaining power can only be found in the source of all life, who is Jehovah God.

Declaration: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)
