Topic: From the beginning it was not so 82
Scripture: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)
Note: The three sleeping disciples had walked closely with Christ for three and a half years. They had seen it all; sometimes the narrow escapes from the traps of the ambivalent religious rulers, the notorious and sadistic Pharisees, the sophisticated Sadducees who constituted the intelligentsia and the ruling class, together with the scribes.
They had also seen the incontrovertible miracles that exceeded human imaginations and expectations. Even the forces of nature and the elements responded to the command of his voice, bowing to his authority as the true Lord. Demonised and possessed individuals, like the man from the country of the Gadarenes, who lived among the tombs, was untamable, unchainable, a menace to society, crying aloud uncontrollably throughout day and night, and was a constant terror to his neighbours who might need to have their dead buried as the need arises.
Yet on seeing Jesus afar off, instead of the usual terror attacks, he ran quickly and bowed down in worship to him (Mark 5:6). Even the powers of the underworld know Christ and duly acknowledged him as the Son of the Most High God, pleading not to be tormented. Jesus is Lord indeed!
Food for thought: The power and intimidation from the menace of terror, in whatever shape and form, is no match for the matchless Jesus, the Son of the Living God.
Declaration: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. (Phil 2:10)
