Topic: The empty tomb 86
Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15
Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)
Note: Israel committed the grave sin of unbelief when in their desperation, frustration and despair at the evil news they heard about the promised land and the kind of people who occupied the land, the information coming from no less a source than the ten “trusted spies” sent by Moses, they made a disappointing choice to doubt God’s ability to make good His word concerning them.
Israel however, had the benefit of hearing a good side of the same story from two other spies; Joshua and Caleb who also saw the giants, just like the majority of the spies did; the only difference being that though they saw the fact of the famed sizes, strength and warlike appearance of the inhabitants, beyond those frightening facts of what pertains in reality, they saw the truth of their ability to conquer and possess the land because Jehovah had said it. They knew that beyond the physicality of what the eyes see and what their senses are telling them, the reality of the truth of God’s word is far more superior, real and trustworthy than the feelings from their five senses.
We are all confronted with the reality of frightening facts on daily basis upon which critical decisions will have to be made. We are bombarded with global breaking news everyday on the airwaves that seem to strike fear and terror in the hearts of many people. Millions of people are opting for choices that are based purely on fear and panic. News of the uncertainty of terror, suicide bombings and the fear of death are now shaping political landscapes in many nations, impacting democratic choices and the future directions of nations.
Terror, fear and panic have never been new in our world. They had existed from time immemorial, so long as the son of perdition had been at work. We are not ignorant of the devices of the enemy. We’re not intimidated by his cowardly acts and tactics of terror. For we know that he only comes to steal, kill and destroy. But Jesus Christ came to give life, not just survival, but abundant life. In the face of the odds, we make the choice to trust in Jesus and in the inerrancy and power of his word.
Food for thought: We know whom we have believed and we know that he is able to keep us in safety onto the day of redemption.
Declaration: So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. (Heb 3:19)
