Topic: From the beginning it was not so 80

Scripture: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)

Note: Moses needs no introduction to any Jew. The laws covering their spiritual, moral and ceremonial life, all originated from Moses, although with the passage of time, a lot of misinterpretations to the laws were introduced as a result of man-centered rabbinical teachings that were further diluted by oral traditions.

The laws of Moses were held in awe. Anyone teaching anything different, an aberration to the widely held view at a particular time, runs the danger of being accused and put to death. Moses was the one who led Israel from Egypt, with the kind of deliverance that gave identity to Israel as a nation. He was their redeemer, whose strong leadership saw ten different miracles in Egypt that paralyzed all their gods, culminating in the ultimate death of all the first born males of Egypt. The unprecedented miracle of the crossing of the Red Sea on dry ground, attested to the greatness of Moses.

Inspite of all these amazing miracles performed under the hand of Moses, including receiving the 10 Commandments on tablets written with the finger of God, the testimony at the Mount of Transfiguration proved to the three sleeping disciples that Moses is not in the same class as Jesus in person, position, power and purpose. To the three, it was impossible for Jesus to be arrested and killed. He’s untouchable as far as they are concerned, so they went ahead to enjoy their sleep.

Food for thought: Many Christians of today have assumed the position of untouchables due to Grace, sleeping on the job and leading lives that aren’t worthy of followers of Christ.

Declaration: What shall we say then? Shall we continue to sin, that grace may abound? (Rom 6:1)
