Topic: The empty tomb 58

Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15

Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)

Note: The physical incarnation of Jesus was called into question by skeptics of the Gospel, drawing parallels similar to a Hollywood stunt during a movie production as one of the most spectacular make-belief movies intended for mere entertainment of the viewing public.

In the case of the Jesus production, stage-managed, produced and directed by God, the Almighty craftily made Jesus to appear in human form to mortal humans, and He made the stunt of the incarnation to seem so real that Jesus’ virgin birth through Mary, his life on earth, miracles, healings, raising the dead back to life, his teachings, trials, torture, crucifixion, death and resurrection were all seemingly mere phantasm that could have been the envy of the most astute movie producers and directors in Hollywood.

If these descriptions do not aptly describe what the proponents of the Docetic theory had in mind for Jesus, then they must have lacked the prophetic foresight to have anticipated the full capabilities of the human mind as depicted in everyday Hollywood movies.

Docetism started what might have begun seemingly as sheer creative joke coupled with the inability of the skeptics to fully comprehend and explain the literal bodily resurrection of Jesus. As their antidote to the historical evidence of the Gospel narratives, these skeptics who were driven by a Gnostic view that the world is evil so God cannot be associated with the material world, failing to understand the mystery of the truth that as by one man, all humanity sinned, so by one man all humanity could be restored to God through becoming sin for us, he who knew no sin.

Food for thought: Jesus came in the flesh to rescue man in the flesh.

Declaration: For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (Rom.5:19)
