Topic: Plan before execution
Reading: 1Chronicles 22

Scripture: And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death. (1Chron 22:5)

Note: Building a temple as a dedication to God for all the great things He had done in his life, transforming David from an ordinary shepherd boy hidden in the backside of the wilderness to a giant slayer, and later getting anointed by Samuel to succeed Saul as the king of Israel, a feat that was achieved without any trace of royal blood in him, must have been an amazing experience in a lifetime of one man; making the construction of the temple an extremely dear one to the heart of David, the man after God’s own heart.

Living in an era of no formal education as we have today, David, with God as his guide, was led to employ all the 6M’s of efficiency in project management, ensuring that the project would not fall short below his expectation of exceeding magnificence, fame and glory to God, even while he was dead and gone. David literally built the temple in his bedroom, on the drawing board, in his war chest of gold, silver, brass, iron, timber and stones. Nothing was left to chance. He didn’t start the actual construction because God didn’t permit him to do so. His son Solomon was to be the one in the plan of God to do the actual execution of the construction.

Amassing gold to today’s equivalent of $2.9 billion and silver to the tune of $1.9 aside the other materials like brass, iron, stones and timber for building a place of worship to the glory of God, is indicative of how dear David valued God and the things related to the worship of God. The money left behind by David is enough to build a whole city from scratch.

Food for thought: Executing a project without adequate planning can be wasteful, time-consuming and costly.

Declaration: Only the Lord give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the Lord thy God. (1Chron 22:12)
