Topic: The empty tomb 57

Reading: Matthew 27:57-66, 28:1-15

Scripture: He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee. (Luke 24:6)

Note: The resurrection appearances of Jesus according to the Gospel stories were based on factual historical evidence written by men who were disciples of Jesus and were eyewitnesses to the historical occurrence. The evidence of these eyewitnesses were recorded during their lifetime, hence their evidence was subject to critical analysis and critique from other witnesses who testified to the historical realities.

The advent of Docetism later in the 1st century was a response from the skeptics of the physical incarnation of Jesus, which was not based on parallel historical evidence or emanating from oral tradition either, whether corrupted or uncorrupted, but a pure fantasy fabrication out of the fertile imagination of the enemies of the cross, who could not come to terms with the fact that a righteous God would allow a prophet like Jesus the Messiah, to die a humiliating death at the hands of corrupt, wicked men in an evil world.

Reasoning from their feeble, warped and corrupted minds, they reckoned that it was both impossible and improbable for a Holy, Just, Wise, Almighty and an Omniscient God to sit down helplessly unconcerned for one of His own prophets to be tortured, tormented and cruelly murdered on a cross.

Unfortunately, Islam, which was founded 600 years later with the birth of the founder Mohammed, after Jesus had died, resurrected and ascended into glory, bought into this fantasy of a theory which had no basis in historicity or oral tradition and used it as a source of writing in the Qur’an on the physical incarnation of Jesus and his crucifixion.

Food for thought: Salvation is not based on commonsense, sentiments, philosophies of men, feelings, hard work, self appraisal, human efforts or self righteousness. It’s purely and solely attained by Grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus at Calvary.

Declaration: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Eph.2:8-9)
