Topic: Planning in Preparation
Reading: 1 Chronicles 22

Scripture: And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death. (1Chron 22:5)

Note: David’s solitary journey into the death trap of self glory met the insurmountable resistance of God’s wrath and judgment, a pestilence that left seventy thousand innocent men of war dead. Rebuked, ashamed and afraid of God, David’s plea for mercy, purchasing of Ornan’s threshing floor at a cost, setting up an altar and offering sacrifice to God that was received by fire, a sign of God’s approval, went a long way to calm David’s fears.

What followed after the acquisition of this site was one of the most massive planning in preparation for the temple project that was intended to be exceeding magnificent in fame, glory and splendour befitting Yahweh. David’s commitment to the construction of the temple had all the hallmark of demonstrated efficiency of a modern project management strategy using the 6M’s of Cause and Effect Analysis:

•Manpower
•Means
•Materials
•Methods
•Measurement
•Mother Nature

In the preparation for the construction of the temple, David considered the required Manpower, the Means to finance the project, the Materials for construction, the Method of construction, Measurement regarding the size of the building and Mother Nature (in this case, God, who forbade him from building the temple because he had shed too much blood in wars).

Just as David planned everything in preparation for the building of the temple by his son, Solomon, Jesus rest-assured his troubled disciples with a promise to go and prepare a place for them (John 14:1-3). Are you a disciple of Christ?

Food for thought: Detailed planning in preparation is a prerequisite for excellence.

Declaration: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:3)
