Topic: From the beginning it was not so 78

Scripture: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” (Luke 23:34)

Note: The disciples’ lack of understanding, interest, purpose and passion for the Jesus Mission of offering himself to die for humanity is amplified by the numerous occasions that Christ told them of his impending death and resurrection after the third day.

This was not what they envisaged and wished for. They had always seen the huge potential for a political Messiah in Christ. The materialisation of this dream would see a world of difference in their living conditions and status quo in society. This dream of privileges, power and positions blinded them to the reality of the direction that Christ was towing. Their understanding of his true purpose was completely clouded in their day-dream of an unconquerable political majesty.

The disciples could not be faulted for their warped imaginations and thinking. They have not forgotten the saying of Jesus that was emphatic that any sacrifice by anyone in denying the world and following him would ever go unrewarded. There would be no regrets.

Food for thought: Jesus Christ is a man of integrity who can be taken seriously for whatever he says. He never fails.

Declaration: In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2)
